
The Blue Grass Trust is privileged to announce that Drs. Woodford and Dorothy Clark Van Meter are the honorary chairs of the 2008 Blue Grass Trust Antiques and Garden Show. Woodford was born in Paris, Kentucky, educated at Davidson College in North Carolina, Vanderbilt Medical School, and completed residencies at the Mayo Clinic and Emory University. He has been in practice as a cornea specialist since 1984. Since 1986, he has been extensively involved in a world wide teaching project in the ophthalmological field, Project Orbis, which has taken him to places such as Syria, Iraq, Sudan, Thailand, Romania, Panama, Haiti, Trinidad, Cuba, and Ecuador. He has been successful in establishing the first eye bank in Cuba and in instituting cornea donations in Syria.
His other passion is collecting antique and coin silver, art, and Kentucky antique furniture. Woodford has some items at the Southern Museum of Decorative Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and at the, Garden Club of Kentucky’s headquarters in Paris. He is active with the Bourbon County Historical Society, has served on the board of the University of Kentucky Library Associates, is member of Lexington's Cricket Club and he is on the board of the Eye Banking Association of America, Kentucky Bank, and the Speed Art Museum.
Dorothy was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, received her B.A. at the University of North Carolina, followed by an MD at the University of Mississippi. She completed residencies at the University of Kentucky and Indiana University. She has maintained a private practice in plastic surgery since 1985. Dorothy has served on the boards of the Headley-Whitney Museum, Bluegrass Boys’ Ranch, Bluegrass Tennis Association, Lexington Medical Society, Planned Parenthood Medical Advisory Committee. She is currently on the Vestry at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, the Board of Directors of the Blue Grass Trust and the Kentucky Surgery Center.
Woodford and Dorothy have two children: Mary is a senior at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and Wood is a sophomore at SCAPA Lafayette.
